Introducing: Jubilee at Los Lunas, New Mexico
As featured in Where to Retire Magazine's July/August 2007 issue
The setting: Currently taking shape, New Mexico's newest active-adult community at Los Lunas (population 11,000) with proximity to the state's largest city, Albuquerque, only 20 miles North.
Best suited for: Those seeking a dry, moderate climate in a small, Southwestern town, but with plenty of neighbors and activities to keep them busy. With more than 800 homes planned on more than 300 acres, Jubilee will be the largest active-adult community in the state.
Other perks: Later this year, construction will begin on Villa Jubilee, the community's 30,700-square-foot recreation center. In addition to a full calendar of activities, amenities will include an indoor and outdoor pool, a community "living room" — space to read, meet friends or enjoy a "cuppa joe" at the coffee bar — and a state-of-the-art fitness center. Outside, residents will find tennis and bocce ball courts and miles of mountain walking trails.
Says the community: "This community is the best thing we have ever built," says Mark Kaplan, president of Jenamar Communities, the developer. "These are the best houses in the New Mexico marketplace." He cites sophisticated architecture and quality features of the homes combined with their affordability. Jenamar Communities also has developed Jubilee at Hawks Prairie in Lacey, WA, honored as one of the 100 Best Master Planned Communities in this issue.
Home sweet home: Jubilee offers single-story, single-family homes that blend Southwestern and Tuscan styles. Exteriors are stucco, but there are options for arched windows, red-tile roofs and facade stonework to give homes a more European flair. Buyers can choose from nine floor plans (each with four different exterior variations) that range from 1,143 square feet to 2,872 square feet. Homes are priced from $189,900 to $341,900 and up, depending on customization. A seven-home model park is open, and at press time, the first residents were arriving.
Age restricted: Yes.
